Every year in October, The Craft and Yarn Council celebrates "I love yarn day". This year I am super excited because I will be celebrating it at the Rhinebeck, NY sheep and wool festival. I think that is a perfect combination. I will have the opportunity to celebrate "I love yarn day" surrounded by beautiful fibers, yarn, designs and ideas.
I love yarn day is a great way to share your love for the fiber arts. There are many ways to celebrate but one of my favorites is to share my knowledge with others and teach someone how to crochet or knit. Kids are great candidates for this because they love to make arts and crafts with yarn. They are also quick learners. In addition, knitting or crocheting help kids to focus and pay attention to details, it helps them to develop math skills (yes there is math involved in knitting and crochet patterns) and also allow them to follow directions.
The craft and yarn council of America is running several contests until October 24-2015 Please go to the The craft Yarn council website for details on how to enter and how to get involved in your community.
Here are some ways to celebrate:
Go to your local yarn store and knit or crochet. Work on one of your ufo's. Have a party and invite friends, teach them how to crochet or knit. Go through your stash and donate any yarn you are not going to use. Knit some premmie hats and take them to your local children's hospital or charity. Don't forget to have some coffee, yarn and coffee just go together!
